Arr, ye scurvy dogs, it be Talk Like A Pirate Day! Set back, we’ll be keelhaulin’ the politicians and the bankers momentarily.
Not that much actually happened on Monday, though. I found a huge mess of data in the master DB that isn’t being used and doesn’t need to be there, so getting rid of that was probably a very good thing.
I was finally able to get signed up for an account with the people who bought my mortgage. However, the bastards at Green Tree Servicing have the unmitigated gall to charge a $12 “convenience fee” for making an electronic payment. The only thing I can think of is that they want people to mail in payments, so they can claim the payments were delayed in the mail, and then charge those people a late fee. Bank of America, despite being a bunch of evil slimeballs, never charged me a penny for making electronic payments. I don’t really know the full story here, but what I do know so far doesn’t sound all that good. We’ll see. Verdict right now is “Hope that Green Tree Servicing doesn’t buy your mortgage.”

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThat is completely ridiculous and disgusting. Perhaps there is some way to get a loan from another mortgage company? I don’t know. That is $144 dollars a year, as you no doubt know.
You mean “refinance”? I don’t know if that’s a possibility since I owe more on the condo than it’s currently worth. It’s apparently possible to sign up for automated payments, which they say cost nothing. Thing is, that gives them the right to charge arbitrary amounts to your bank account every month. Unscrupulous companies use that leeway to tack on additional charges. So far, I have no reason to trust these people as far as I could spit a guinea pig.
And of course, a 44-cent stamp is much less than $12. I’m positive they’d charge a $5 “check acceptance fee” if they could.
Yes, they would. Or more if possible.
There are probably some regulations about accepting payment via check which prevent them from charging a fee for that. Hooray for old laws, I guess.
