Saturday, the big excitement was going to Sherry’s wedding way out in Surprise. It was a long drive, made longer by Stephanie finding out that the AC in my car isn’t working well (sigh). But we got there, found the wedding venue, and sat down. Several of us had trouble finding the place.
Anyway, we sat (in the back) and watched the ceremony, which was relatively standard except for a “sand ceremony”, where Sherry and Men poured small containers of colored sand into a larger container. I think only about half of the pictures I took were worth keeping, because I was in a terrible place for taking pictures. Then the reception started, which was nearby and pretty good. However, all the tables near the front were reserved for people who were related to Sherry and Men, and the friends of bride and groom were all stuck far in the back. No matter. The food was good.
After dinner was finished, there was a champagne toast, then a couple of short speeches by the best man and the bridesmaid. And then a bunch of people dressed up in silly costumes and did impressions (seriously). This took a while. It was about 9:15pm before the bride and groom circulated through all the tables to say hi. Most of us were champing at the bit, because lots of us live a long way away from Surprise and had about an hour drive ahead of us. So about 2 minutes after we’d congratulated Sherry and said goodbye, we all got up and left.
I hope everything works out for Sherry, since she’s moving to a suburb of Seattle to be with her husband. It’ll be a huge change for her, and for all of us. It’s never easy to lose a co-worker whom everyone likes. But we’ll deal; we really have no choice.
Sunday, I was tired. I got groceries, made dinner, and tried to keep everyone happy. I think I mostly succeeded.
Monday, multiple buckets of bovine excrement hit multiple high-speed fans. There’s something really weird going on that nobody could figure out, and it took far too long to get everything working reasonably well.
