Here’s a swan at the Phoenix Zoo sitting pretty. Wednesday didn’t actually have a lot going on. I went to Bass Pro Shop and bought another handgun, a Taurus 24/7 Pro in .45 ACP. I’ve been wanting something like that for a while. Now that I’ve got it, I’ll have to see how it performs [...]

Tuesday, John S. flew in from Detroit. This should’ve been a lot easier than it was, but I wasn’t paying attention when I looked at the itinerary, and I thought he was flying on Northworst. So after finally finding out which terminal he was in, I managed to pick him up and ferry his stuff [...]

Monday, the big excitement was a Rock Band get-together at Nathan’s house, featuring cassoulet. I’d read an article about cassoulet that said it took days to make from scratch. Nathan’s cassoulet was the shorter version, which only took 3 hours to make. Anyway. So Nathan, Jason2, and Mike and I had dinner, played Rock Band [...]

Sunday, the big excitement was getting together with Zach, Nacho, and Jason at the Casa Grande rifle range. I think everyone and their brother was out there that morning. There weren’t a lot of free benches. Only Jason had remembered to bring boxes and targets to staple to those boxes. I had a box, but [...]

More pictures from the zoo. I saw this baboon or a very similar-looking one doing the exact same thing last year. I guess baboons have habits, just like people. Saturday had the parents coming over after breakfast and doing a few errands. They mailed their presents back to their house, then helped me get rid [...]

Here we see an otter sleeping next to a plastic ball. So on Friday, we all got together and had Christmas. Lots of presents, including one that I was totally not expecting: A copy of The Impossible Bird, signed by the author. Apparently, it was available from a used book dealer for $1. I don’t [...]

Thursday, we all went to the zoo, where we saw this little guy, a couple of other otters, and a ton of other critters. That was pretty good. More pictures from that zoo trip will be showing up later. The only real downside was that when we were eating lunch, a bird voided its bowels [...]

Darlin’, dressed up as a lobster. The mind boggles. Well, maybe it doesn’t. Nobody was up for doing anything strenuous on Wednesday, so we all went to see “Avatar”. If you’ve been reading movie reviews, you’ll know it’s a very pretty, completely sanitized Noble Savage myth. In reality, people who live a hunter-gatherer lifestyle are [...]

Last night, I was too tired to write an entry. And this morning, I spent more time trying to figure out a way to make the VM I’m running this site on stop crashing at inopportune times than writing anything. But this might work. So. Tuesday, Mom was still feeling sick. So we didn’t do [...]

This isn’t what anybody would want to wear, right? Right? Good. Monday had the parents showing up. However, they were delayed an hour, and Mom wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to eat anything. I was actually glad that I hadn’t done the prep work on the lasagna. I’ll have to make that later on, [...]
