Teh Nacho wearing a tactical vest at the rifle rangeHere we see Teh Nacho at the rifle range, wearing his tactical vest and carrying a Romanian AK-47. “Crazy” is not the word I’d use to describe the guy, though.

Hm. Lazy Sunday. I finished reading Moby-Dick, talked on the phone with a bunch of people, cooked dinner, and watched the Cardinals get their butts kicked by the Colts. OK, it’s early in the season, and the Colts are a good team, but it’s still annoying watching the home team getting smacked around like that.

One of the things that I hadn’t noticed before in Moby-Dick is the idea of recurrence: Ahab says to Starbuck something like, “We have rehearsed this part a billion years before the oceans rolled! This is inevitable,” before going on his last sally against the White Whale. David Zindell, in his Neverness series, said that the idea of recurrence is the ultimate affirmation of the universe; that wanting everything to happen again as it has happened before is a great thing. I believe that Melville’s idea of recurrence was a bit more pessimistic than Zindell’s though.
