Pride and Prejudice, with more zombiesThere are some Jane Austen novels that could be improved by adding the walking dead. I’ve read thousands of literary works by now, by authors as diverse as Gene Wolfe, Tad Williams, Herman Melville, Dostoevsky, Virgil, Homer, Herodotus, T.S. Eliot, Tom Robbins, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, Dan Simmons, China Mieville, and Rebecca Ore. One of the only books that I’ve ever read that I just wanted to throw at the wall was Pride and Prejudice. I’m not sure why this is—I just had no interest in the characters or what they were doing.

Work: Apparently, Perl 5.8.8 (Ubuntu) and Perl 5.8.8 (Redhat 5) have a number of annoying differences in the way they handle the split() function on \n terminated, space delimited strings. This caused about half an hour’s worth of hassle and stupidity. Well, I was eventually able to fix it, though it was a pain and required entirely too much debugging.
