Sometimes, cats will do stupid things. This is no exception.
Reading another of L.E. Modesitt’s books, The Ethos Effect. This one appeared fairly standard until about 200 pages in, where the author starts talking about what happens to a society where money is respected more than honor. I’m not sure if I buy the author’s conclusions, but it’s interesting anyway.
Not an enormous amount to report. Tried some new stuff for dinner on Sunday, a pasta dish with mushrooms and sauce. It’s OK. The trouble is, it’s a Tesco branded thing, and so not available at the store I usually
go to.

(Tesco, as you probably know, is the largest UK supermarket chain)
Tesco started a few pilot stores in Phoenix a few months back. They’re not *called* Tesco, though. They’re called “Fresh and Easy”.
I recall one of the Monks saying something like, “Wal-Mart had trouble turning a profit in their UK stores because Tesco was so aggressive.” OK, then.
Yeah, the UK food market is much more centralised – there are maybe 4 or so big supermarket chains, and Tesco is the biggest with all that implies in terms of Wal-Mart-like ability to negotiate low prices from suppliers. Wal-Mart bought into one of the smaller chains (Asda, if I recall correctly), but they’re still in a relatively minor position.
I should read the Scary Devil Monastery again, it’s been a long time. :)
Yeah, I remember that bit about Tesco’s size from somewhere. Also, check your mail….
