I don’t know how they got this picture. Maybe it’s better not to know.
Not a whole lot to report. Well, last Thursday, Bill said that he knew both Chris and I were at least partially fluent in French. Bill then wanted to hear us talk in French. So we tried, and at least partially succeeded. I can read French, and understand most spoken French, but speaking it is much more difficult. There just aren’t very many French speakers here, for one thing, so I just haven’t gotten much practice in.
Just opened a library book called Holes, by a couple of European philosophers. It’s interesting but somewhat tedious. I’ve only gotten about 40 pages into it. I actually found the section about “naive physics as applied to artificial intelligence” more interesting than the authors’ long drawn-out attempt to define “what a hole is”. Maybe this is because I’ve never taken any philosophy classes, and I tend to approach anything that doesn’t have an emotional component with a chemistry/physics angle instead of a soft-science angle.
I’ve also got a stupid user problem. Well, the less said about that the better. Maybe the Solaris machine will be ready, and I can figure out what to do with it. If not, there’s another set of shell scripts I need to write, which should occupy me for a few hours.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackHoles? You know you could just watch the movie; it didn’t seem all that interesting to me.
