When I first saw this painting, I looked at the extreme right of it, where the man’s body is partially transparent and you can see a woman through him. Then I looked at the extreme left, where the family is. I think it took a good 20 seconds before I noticed the actual subject of the painting. I thought this painting was partially famous, but I can’t find any references to its title. Maybe I should’ve written the title or the artist’s name down, since I probably got a word or two in the title wrong and that’s messing up my Googling.
I start the job today. It will be interesting. There’s a 2-hour orientation meeting for all the new employees. I wonder what that consists of. Maybe we’ll all be team-building synergistic matrix empowered valued ethnically diverse tiger team Myers-Briggs member associates at the end of it. Alex gave me some advice about what to do and what not to do—basically common sense there.
A larger version of the photo for those who want a better look at it.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackAt my husband’s last job the two hour orientation for all new employees turned out to be detialied informaitoin about benefits and vacations and never being late. The real orientations begin in smaller groups, in my experience.
I had two days of orientation at the larger campus for this job. Every couple hours I went to talk to a different librarian about his or her job an how I would do it differently since I would not be at that campus. Prepare for a lot of information most normal people will not remember and will have to call about and ask details about when they actually need it.
Most of the info that we got was also written on paper, so we could refer back to it later when necessary. So that’s good. The real orientation was reading the local wiki for info on what had been done before, what is going on now, and what they want to do in the future. That will take some time for me to grok fully.
