I wonder what Hunter S. Thompson would think of the LOLcat phenomenon. Would he paint it as a complete failure of American originality, or would he depict it as a great way to inject more surrealism into everyday life? It could go either way.
Went to Steve’s yesterday, spent most of the evening fooling with VMWare and the Ubuntu version of compiz-fusion. The compiz-fusion interface in Hardy is somewhat improved from earlier versions, but still beta. The window-decorator component kept crashing for no apparent reason when we tried to change various options in the settings manager. Maybe there will be a patch to fix this soon.
It really surprised me how much less work it was to install VMWare on Gentoo. Well, anything that isn’t Free is always going to be more difficult to install on Debian-based distros thanks to the core Debian philosophy. Steve’s also having a party on Saturday, and unless things change between now and then, I’m supposed to bring a pan of Bonehead Enchiladas (made with corn tortillas) and maybe a 6-pack of decent beer. This should be interesting; members of Steve’s family will be there and I haven’t met any of them yet.
