My parents’ Siamese, back when he was young and didn’t weigh 15 pounds.
Got a call from a recruiter yesterday, apparently WeDoBanking wants to do an in person interview with me on Thursday. This is a good thing. I guess I’ll see how that goes.
Trivia last night. We didn’t win, we came in [...]

An old, old scribble. I must’ve scanned this almost ten years ago.
This year, I’ve been trying to get at least one book of a type that I don’t usually read from the library every time I go. So yesterday, I got Serving the Word by Vincent Crapanzano, a study of literalism in fundamentalist [...]

While I was getting groceries yesterday, I saw an old minivan with an enthusiastic and non-conventional paint job. The base color seemed to be green. There were amateur paintings of a mermaid, a T-Rex, a duck riding on top of a T-Rex, a lamp, seemingly random words including “vacuum” and “crow”, and strange [...]

Last night, I had a fair amount of a leftover chicken and rice dish which I’d made days earlier available in a plastic container in the fridge. I also had in my cabinets and freezer ingredients sufficient to make tuna noodle casserole, pork chops with applesauce and mashed potatoes, or New Orleans-style dirty rice. [...]

There aren’t enough people practicing the ancient art of chainsaw balancing today.
Fuzzball attempted to wake me up at 5 am again. Like lots of cats, she gets up with the sun and doesn’t pay any attention to alarm clocks.
I don’t have any caffeine in the house at all right now. This may have [...]

An old sketchbook entry that was never quite finished.
A recruiter from WeMakeChips e-mailed me yesterday. He had a contract position available doing some stuff that I’m totally qualified to do. I replied and said I was interested–what else could I do? I have no actual job offers yet, so almost everything I [...]

Yesterday, I did a very stupid thing, leaving the house without my spare car keys. So when I got to Steve’s house, the first thing I did was to lock my keys in my car. So my car was inaccessible and since my house key was on the same keyring as my car [...]

Where would the world of computing be without Adventure and Zork? Text adventure games stopped being commercially viable as soon as graphics got partially decent in the late 1980s. I think part of the problem was also that the puzzles in games like “Sorcerer” were really difficult, and most people are too lazy [...]

Kitteh from the Laugh-Out-Loud Cats dispenses 2500-year-old advice.
Interview yesterday wasn’t quite what I was expecting. I turned down the wrong street and spend 15 minutes wondering where the heck 77th street was. Fortunately, I’d allowed some extra time in case of traffic or getting lost. The company president, a senior programmer, and [...]

This cartoon was relevant in 2000. Now, they’re rolling out fiber to the curb in some places. Like the steady state of disks is “full”, the steady state of bandwidth is “not enough”.
Interview this morning. I have not one, but 3 code samples ready for them: One complete GTK+ [...]
